Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound spaghetti
- 1 pound ground beef or Italian sausage
- 1 jar (24 oz) marinara sauce
- 1 cup cottage cheese
- 1 cup ricotta cheese
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Substitution Suggestions: For a vegetarian version, swap the ground meat for sautéed mushrooms or zucchini. You can also use gluten-free pasta if needed.
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Cook the spaghetti according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.
- Add ground beef or sausage to the skillet. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon. Drain excess fat.
- Stir in marinara sauce, dried oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Let it simmer for about 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
- In a mixing bowl, combine cottage cheese, ricotta cheese, and half of the mozzarella cheese. Mix until well blended.
- In a 9×13-inch baking dish, layer half of the cooked spaghetti, followed by the cheese mixture, half of the meat sauce, and repeat the layers.
- Top with the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 30 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
- Garnish with fresh parsley before serving, if desired.
