- 1/4 cup small pasta shapes (such as orzo or pastina)
- 1 small carrot, peeled and finely grated
- 1 small zucchini, peeled and finely grated
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh basil (optional)
- 1 cup low-sodium vegetable broth or water
- Pinch of ground black pepper (optional)
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, bring the vegetable broth or water to a gentle boil.
- Add the small pasta shapes to the boiling liquid. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
- After about 5 minutes, add the finely grated carrot and zucchini to the saucepan. Continue to cook until the pasta is soft and the vegetables are tender, about 5-7 more minutes.
- Once cooked, drain any excess liquid, leaving a little to ensure the pasta remains moist.
- Transfer the mixture to a mixing bowl, and stir in the olive oil for a silky texture.
- If desired, add a pinch of ground black pepper and the finely chopped fresh basil for an aromatic touch.
- Allow the pasta to cool to a safe temperature before serving it to your baby.
