Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups fresh watermelon, cubed
- 1/4 cup vodka
- 1 tablespoon lime juice, freshly squeezed
- 1 tablespoon simple syrup (or to taste)
- Ice cubes
- Mint leaves for garnish
- Watermelon slice for garnish
If you’re looking to add a twist, you can substitute the vodka with gin for a more botanical flavor, or use agave syrup instead of simple syrup for a different sweetness profile.
Instructions
- Start by blending the watermelon cubes in a blender until smooth. This step always reminds me of the countless times I helped my mom prepare fresh fruit juices in our family kitchen.
- Strain the watermelon puree through a fine-mesh sieve into a cocktail shaker to remove any pulp, ensuring a smooth drink.
- Add the vodka, lime juice, and simple syrup to the shaker. Fill it with ice cubes, and shake vigorously for about 30 seconds. This is where the magic happens, as the ingredients meld together beautifully.
- Taste and adjust the sweetness if needed by adding more simple syrup.
- Strain the mixture into a chilled martini glass. I like to keep my glasses in the freezer, a trick Nonna Rosa taught me to enhance the drinking experience.
- Garnish with a slice of watermelon and a sprig of mint before serving.
